As Minnesota’s first university, Hamline has welcomed students of all backgrounds since 1854. In 2019, 45% of Hamline’s incoming class were students of color, and 46% were the first in their families to attend college. Committed to inclusion and social change, Hamline students take the lead both on campus and in the wider community. Hamline undergraduate students have opportunities to participate in research projects with faculty, and each of these students leaves Hamline with an internship, service-learning experience, teaching apprenticeship, or collaborative research project on their résumé.

With more than 50 areas of study in innovative areas such as forensic science and computational data science, as well as an online bachelor's degree completion program, undergraduate students gain a well-rounded liberal arts education that prepares them for rewarding careers. Graduate students can take advantage of highly sought-after master's degrees in areas such as business analytics, as well as one-of-a-kind master's programs with national reputations, including the Master of Fine Arts in Writing for Children and Young Adults. At Hamline, all students get a highly relevant, affordable education.
